manofgnee: (-Boring!-)

Case 101

When I was a kid...there was this girl who lived next door. I remember she had this pet bird that she absolutely adored, and I always wanted to go and say hi to her...but I never did, cuz I guess I was too shy, or she was busy, or self esteem decided to go on a vacation or something.

's too bad. She seemed really nice...the only time I ever did talk to her was the day before she moved away. It was also the only time I ever got to see her pet bird up close...

Unfortunately, this was all because her bird had died, and she'd lost the key to his cage...it was so odd, the key had 'rest in piece' written on it already, but she'd kept that bird in that cage with that key before he died. Course, I didn't say anything cuz I was a stupid kid...

So I went and gave her back her key. And she said some really strange stuff...she started to apologize to me for something, and she said that she would pray for me when whatever it was ended up happening.

I just thought it was her being weird until I got bigger. Then I realized, hey, that was my first official paranormal encounter! Just wish I'd listened to her back then.

...Oh, and then when I was 8, I spilled hot chocolate on my favorite blanket while my parents were out. And I tried to wash it myself, and ended up shredding the blanket in the washing machine and dying everything else that was in there pink. That wasn't fun. The replacement blanket wasn't really the same...That ranks right up there with when I lost my special birthday balloon when I was 5. I named it something really silly...

Balloons were really big to me...but they were always sort of sad, finite things, an--wait, why am I talking about this?

Oh, lord, it's a curse.

I am going to attempt to shut up now.

You might explode if you try that.

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally not helping, Di Di! And I can too shut up.

[identity profile] bufferprincess.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, you didn't really ask for help though.

I know. But you could...I dunno, not make things worse?

[identity profile] bufferprincess.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
How is a warning making this worse?

Because it's either talk or explode!!

What kind of bird?

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it was a sparrow. It looked like one, anyway.

You ever watch Baretta?

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
No, but it does sound familiar. What's it about?

This really super cool detective. Anyway he had a bird too, a cockatoo. Nothing paranormal though.

Oh, cool!! I gotta see that, it sounds neat. Plus, best sidekick ever.

What a strange key.

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I never thought much of it until a whole lot later.

[identity profile] cateyedhunter.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. You have..."paranormal" experiences often?

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep! I ended up being a paranormal investigator partly because they kept happening.

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-09-20 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, as a matter of fact, it is.

I mean, sure, I do need another job to pay for food and rent and stuff, but it's still a job!!

That poor bird...

Hey, balloons are one of the saddest things ever. They're so pretty, but no matter what you do, they end up deflating. Totally valid thing to think about.

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-09-20 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I was sad...I think she was to. She didn't get rid of him after he died right away either...

They make me feel...I dunno. I was told that when a balloon flies away, it means that somewhere, somebody's wish comes true.

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-09-20 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
That's kind of weird, but it can be hard to let go. Was she okay after a while?

Really? I thought that escaping balloons just meant that some woodland creature was eventually going to choke on the latex or get hurt by the string.

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-09-20 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno. I talked to her once, and all it involved was her apologizing to me for the horrible fate she saw for me in the future. I think. She didn't explain, and she moved away.

...Yeah, that's the literal meaning, but it's also the one I try not to think about when I accidentally lose a balloon.

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-09-20 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
That's not exactly encouraging.

Okay, that... makes a lot of sense. You feel bad enough about losing the balloon without thinking about the environmental impact.

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-09-20 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
No. And I didn't even realize she was basically warning me until it was too late.

I do feel bad about the impact, I do!! I don't like the idea of hurting some animal just because I wasn't careful with a balloon...

...it's just that the idea of balloons becoming wishes...it was something my mom told me when I was still little. And it's one of the only things I've still got from her. I think it might be the only thing.
