Case 122 [Accidental Video/Action]

[It's a bit odd for Hanna, not being home on the Day of the Dead. It messes up all his personal traditions...but he's fine with trying something new.

Hanna's tired, and he looks just a little sad, but he's still smiling as he goes through the graveyard. In one hand is a large bouquet of bright yellow marigolds, the other hand has a box filled with cookies. He tried to bake his own, but that really didn't work out.]

I hope they don't mind that I didn't make em...though, they probably would prefer store bought over my homemade monstrosities. Haha!

[Hanna laughs slightly, before he gets started, going over to a grave and sitting down in front of it. He pulls out a marigold and a few cookies, placing them on the grave. He stays at the grave for a few minutes, just talking to it, before he moves on to another grave, repeating the process.

It's the Day of the Dead. Even the dead of the City deserve something special...the dead don't all have names, or properly cared for headstones...or even names that Hanna knows. How long have they been here, who were they?

Well, regardless, they deserve something special, a little respect on a special day.]

...shoot, I hope I got enough cookies and flowers...shoot, I hope they like cookies...Maybe I should come here more often...it's sort of nice.

Hah, I wish Gallahad was here. I'd make it his best day ever! We could even pretend it was his birthday!

[He laughs again, before smiling slightly and turning back to the grave he's sitting at now, in the back of the graveyard.]

Hee, sorry. Went off on a bit of a tangent there...anyway, where were we?

[He goes back to talking to the grave, moving to another one after a few more minutes. This is his plan for the day.

After all, he can't visit the graves at home, so make do with what you got?]

Hee, that's fine man, take your time!

[ When Mouse arrives at the graveyard, he doesn't actually enter it -- just hovers at the edge, peering over the tombstones to find Hanna. When he calls out, it's not particularly effective given how quiet he is in the first place. But he does it anyway. ]

Hanna...?

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hanna's in front of a particularly old tombstone, but he gets up and waves, trying to show Mouse exactly where he is.]

Over here!!

action;

[identity profile] habitformed.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Mouse smiles at Hanna at a distance and then giving the nearest tombstones a look that seems to ask can I come in, he carefully makes his way over to Hanna, occasionally making note of where cookies and flowers have been left behind.

Lifting a hand, he waves at Hanna once he's finally nearby. He observes, rather obviously:
]

Cookies.

action;

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep! I tried to make my own, but I think that they're sort of...toxic. Hee.

[He grins and motions for him to sit down.]

Want one? I think I got enough for everybody here plus extra...

[identity profile] habitformed.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Mouse makes that face again -- that is this okay face -- at the nearest tombstone and the small carved angle sitting atop it. There is, of course, no answer; but in this circumstance Mouse is considering not being struck down as a good sign. He sits down, a far enough distance from Hanna to feel safe, and then pulls his sleeve over his hand to ask for a cookie. ]

Ghosts like cookies?

action;

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hanna smiles and hands Mouse a cookie, which, of course, is ghost shaped.]

I hope they do...on the Day of the Dead, you're supposed to bring the dead their favorite foods from when they were alive...but since I didn't know this particular group of dead people personally, I thought cookies might be a safe choice.

action;

[identity profile] habitformed.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Mouse actually giggles when he realizes that the cookie he's just been given is ghost shape. Much like a child with a toy, he waggles the cookie through the air and makes non-nonsensical PacMan noises with his mouth and his cheeks.

Abruptly, he stops and looks at Hanna again.
]

Like Christmas. For dead people.

action;

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hanna laughs and picks up his own ghost cookie, before joining in on making PacMan noises, complete with the wah wah of death as he bites off the ghost's head.]

Haa, ten points! And yeah, it sort of is like Christmas for dead people! You give them food and flowers and you celebrate their lives and their afterlife. It's a good holiday. I thought that these guys might like somebody to talk to today, too.

action;

[identity profile] habitformed.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Mouse's eyes grow large at that last statement and he looks around with a mouthful of cookie at the graves around them, almost expecting them to start talking any minute. ]

Quiet for talking.

action;

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they're pretty quiet. But hey, that's fine. I think they just appreciate the company.

action;

[identity profile] habitformed.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Behind his half-eaten cookie, Mouse smiles in a small and private way. ]

Back home. Cookies too?

action;

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep! I can't cook them at home either, though. I just can't cook. Heh. But I do this every year. It's sort of nice.

action;

[identity profile] habitformed.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Mouse nods and then goes quiet, nibbling away at the rest of the cookie. He's not very talkative in general and the thoughtfulness of Hanna's exercise has him thinking. Eventually he carefully takes another cookie from Hanna and then twists about, reaching to place it on another nearby grave.

He pats the cookie very carefully with his hand, brushing away leaves so that it may rest on clear ground. Then Mouse smiles at the tombstone its resting in front and and says:
]

Merry Christmas.

action;

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hanna smiles at Mouse and at the grave.]

They really do like this. It's a good day.

action;

[identity profile] habitformed.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ After a moment Mouse lowers his face to the ground, pressing his ear against the dirt and grass to listen for a while. ]

Ever talk back?

action;

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes. Depends on their moods, and how at rest they are.

action;

[identity profile] habitformed.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[ This gets Mouse to make a huh noise as he sits up again. Since he's not that great at conversation, he begins whistling for the grave and its occupant instead. It's a song, quite possibly made up off the top of Mouse's head, that eventually dissolves into twittering nonsense bird-calling.

Apparently, he's pretty good at it.
]

action;

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hanna smiles quietly and he just listens. A couple of birds hear the whistling and come by to see what's going on.]

action;

[identity profile] habitformed.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[ One particularly brave bird decides to come perch atop the gravestone that Mouse has been whistling too. Mouse makes that huh noise again and then glances over his shoulder at Hanna and winks.

This time, when he whistles again, it's a very specific bird whistle. The grey bird gives a hop back and forth, then chirps in reply.
]

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hanna makes a little happy noise, watching this all. He takes a cookie and crumples it up, scattering the crumbs on the ground while mentally hoping that birds liked cookies.]

action;

[identity profile] habitformed.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Birds tend to be fond of crumbled bits of stuff in general, so while cookies might not be inherent to their diet, adventurous ones have been known to partake for the sake of crumbliness.

The bird twitches its head at the two of them and then says something in birdese quite possibly along the lines of better not try anything funny. Mouse whistles nonsense in reply and then the bird flaps down from its gravestone perch to peck at ghost cookie crumbles from the ground between the two of them.

Mouse flashes Hanna a thumbs up.
]

action;

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hanna laughs and watches the bird peck at the crumbs, giving Mouse a thumbs up in response. Yeah, today is indeed a very good day.]

What did it say?

action;

[identity profile] habitformed.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The question is so ridiculous that Mouse erupts in a series of giggles that sends the little grey bird flying back to its perch, a little spooked. Mouse tries to whistle it back down to the ground between them, but it's hard to whistle in general when laughing so it just comes out misshapen and warbly.

The bird chirps annoyingly back and then hops down again, only to focus on pecking at crumbs decidedly closer to Hanna.
]

Don't speak bird, Hanna.

action;

[identity profile] manofgnee.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooops! Sorry, sorry! Didn't mean to spook the bird either, heh.

[He laughs quietly, taking a few crumbs in his hand and holding them out to the bird.]
